The Wenchang Space Launch Site, situated in Wenchang, Hainan, China, is a significant rocket launch site and China's fourth and southernmost spaceport. Originally a suborbital test center, it now serves as a fully-fledged launch facility for spacecraft. Chosen for its low latitude, close to the equator at 19° north, it enables the launch of heavier payloads necessary for China's future space station missions. This site is unique in China for using a seaport for rocket deliveries. Construction was completed by October 2014, with its first launch occurring on 25 June 2016. The facility primarily launches Long March 5, the heaviest Chinese rocket.
