SpaceX, officially Space Exploration Technologies Corp, is an American private spacecraft manufacturer, launch service provider, and satellite communications company based in Hawthorne, California. Founded in 2002 by Elon Musk, SpaceX aims to reduce space transportation costs and enable Mars colonization. It operates Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy rockets and Dragon and Starship spacecraft. SpaceX has developed Starlink, a satellite internet constellation, and is working on Starship, a fully-reusable, heavy-lift launch system for interplanetary and orbital spaceflight. It was the first private company to reach orbit, send a spacecraft to the ISS, and achieve vertical landing and reuse of an orbital rocket booster.
